On a slightly lighter note, I have been having a whale of a time making the decoration for my "free range" chickens. The technique is called zanfirico, and is of Italian origin. It involves pulling cane whilst twisting simultaneously, so that the colour which is encased conforms into a spiralled pattern. This will can then be arranged, heated and rolled up to make a vessel. Or in my case, chickens.
I have chosen this technique as it is an effective way to make my chickens look similar whilst still being individual and unique. Not to mention I think it's really pretty!
If all goes to plan, I will also be using this cane to make a zanfirico rooster. Rather than use the cane in the traditional way, I hope to add it to the derriere of the rooster when hot to form his tail feathers. He will have the lady chickens going clucking crazy...
